Wednesday the 20th, students gathered for the first meeting in the new debating union Forum Politica. Thanks to the good show-up, two full debates were held, with both lively and strong arguments from all participants making it both entertaining and interesting for all.
The first debate, featuring a team of debaters put together to perform a demonstration discussed the sale of alcohol within supermarkets in Iceland. The complexity of this issue became clear as our well-prepared debaters made strong and passionate speeches for their cause, spurring reactions from both sides worthy of the British Parliament itself.
Following this, all participants enjoyed free pizza and refreshments offered by Politica, Orator, Magus and Icemun, while Jon Stewart and the Daily Show entertained us from the big screen with their take on world politics.
In the final debate a whole new team of debaters of voluteers from the audience discussed Reality Shows, and whether or not government money should be given to their production. Despite our speekers having almost no time for preparation, they performed with great confidence and strenght and again succeeded in creating a debate that was as much fun as it was interesting.
We thank all who came for their contribution to Forum Politica, and hope that those who did not have the opportunity to join us this time will do so at the next meeting, which will be announced here on this page and by emails as soon as it is ready!
